Statistical Facts On Autism

Of the 1% of the population with Autism, 34.31% pursue a Software Engineering related career. However, employers are successful in filtering 97% of Autistic candidates through a non-job related screening.

Only 1% of the population has Autism; however, Autism accounts for 20.8% of all homeless and approximately 10% (confirmed) to 41% (with symptoms) of all suicides.

Of the 1% of the population with Autism, 85% are unemployed. 51% of those employed are underemployed.

Contrary to prejudice and stereotypical assumptions, only 3.7% (777 thousand) of all Software Engineers (21 million people) are Autistic. However, 34.31% (25.5 million people) of all 75 million people with Autism pursue Software Engineering related careers.

Only 3% (777 thousand people) of the 25.5 million people with Autism who pursue a Software Engineering career make up the successful 3.7% (777 thousand people) of all Software Engineers (21 million people). Only 1.04% of all 75 million people (1% of the population) with Autism are Software Engineers.

This number (3%) is so low in comparison to the total who pursue a career because companies use an employment test that has been successful in filtering out most people with Autism from being hired.
